Turn the Garage into a Scrapbooking Workshop

Scrapbooking Workshop Garage

What are you using your garage for right now? Some might use it for their car, but many people end up using it as an extra storage space, or they do not use it at all. Why not consider turning it into something else that will be perfect for your hobby – scrapbooking!

If this idea sounds intriguing, you will be happy to know that it is easier to do than you might think. Imagine how nice it will be to head out there and scrapbook in your own space.

We’ve compiled a list of the things that you need to have if you want to turn your garage into the perfect scrapbooking workshop.

Before you begin

You need to have quality lighting in the garage. You are likely going to be working with assorted colors and materials. You need to make sure you have enough lighting to see the true colors you are choosing, and to do any fine and detailed work. If you do not have proper lighting this will be impossible. It could also cause you to suffer from headaches. The garage itself will need to have quality overhead lighting if it doesn’t already, and your worktables may need to have some supplemental lighting.

Think about the natural lighting the garage gets, as well. In some cases, this might be advantageous, but you may find that it conflicts with your other lighting, so you may need to block it out.

The electricity is important to think about, as well. You must make sure you have enough outlets in the garage for your needs. If you need more outlets, do not overload them with too many devices. Instead, you will want to have an electrician add more outlets for you. Try to avoid extension cords, too. The tools you are using should not have a cord that is longer than five feet. In addition, you should never put an electrical cord beneath a mat unless the cord is grounded.

You need to have a table on which you can work, as well. The larger the table the better, but you still need to make sure you can get around the garage easily. A table that has at least three-square-feet of space is essential. Make sure that the table has a smooth surface and that it is easy to clean, too.

Speaking of keeping the table clean, it is a good idea to limit the items on the table to those that you will be using for the project. It should not serve as your storage area.

You will need to have proper storage space and shelving for the items that you want to store in the garage for your scrapbooking. You can find many different types of storage options and shelving that could work for you. The ones you choose will often depend on the amount of space you have available, as well as the budget you have. Try to get storage options that will allow you to keep things as nice and organized as possible.

Working Table With Storage And Shelves

Before you buy any storage or shelving options for your garage, make sure you measure the space in your garage and compare it with the size of the items you are considering. The last thing you want to do is buy these items and later realize that it will not work with the space you have available.

A good chair is essential, too. If you are going to be working for any length of time in the garage, you will want to have a comfortable chair. It should be adjustable and it should swivel, as this is the best option for those who will be working at a table or desk. This is one of those areas where you do not want to skimp. A poor chair is going to be hard on your back.

You might find that you are fine with concrete flooring. However, you might want to get a rug, or even some mats for the garage. This can make it more comfortable for you.

Some of the other things you should think about include the heating and ventilation in the garage. It can take some time to get things squared away in the garage, but it can make a perfect spot for your scrapbooking.
